Boltwood Cloud Sensor II for Fixed Observatories
"It was trivial to set up... when it says cloudy and I go look out side, sure enough... the sensor has so far detected rain quite early, just when it begins spitting."   Russell Croman
Have you ever missed out on a night of clear skies because you relied on the TV weatherman? Have you gone outside to check on a long series of exposures, only to find that a passing shower has soaked your equipment?
Well, it's happened to us! To fight back, Boltwood Systems Corporation has developed and built a new tool for the astronomer's arsenal: The Fixed Observatory Cloud Sensor.
The Boltwood Cloud Sensor for Portable Use
A battery powered cloud sensor, perfect for those expeditions to dark-sky sites and star parties! Selected by Sky & Telescope magazine as Hot Product for 2008.
You've booked time off work, packed up your bags, and dragged all your astronomy gear to your favorite star party of the year. Or you and some buddies have decided to drive out of the city and camp under the stars for the long weekend.
But despite the forecast, you've got clouds. What to do - stay up hoping for clear, or give up and go to bed? With the Boltwood Portable Cloud Sensor, you can have your sleep and clear skies, too!
The Portable Cloud Sensor is designed to alert you when the cloud conditions change. A built-in daylight sensor is also included.
The control box includes batteries that will power the unit for over 100 hours, plus an alarm beeper, a headphone jack for "silent" alarms, and simple user controls. See all the details for the Portable Cloud Sensor.
